An antique Italian medaillon or locket in 18k gold, created in 19th century Rome to be bought as a souvenir by visitors of the Eternal City for a loved-one. The front is decorated with a detailed micromosaic of tiny glass tesserae depicting a swan, the back designed as a locket with gold lid framing a clear glass with facetted rim, to secure a strand of hair or other keepsake. The gold frame  fitting precisely into the circular space and closing securely.
It shows an outstanding quality in workmanship comparable to works of Castellani of the same period.
To the back of the bail an ancient repair, hardly visible on the front, unobtrusive and stabile.
