Theodor Fahrner Franz Boeres Art Nouveau Enamel Silver Bar Brooch Pin
Silver 935, blue enamel
L 9.5 cm, W 0.3 to 0.9 cm
Marks: ‘DEPOSÉ’, ligated ‘TF’ in a circle, ‘935’
Germany, ca. 1905

An example of the German abstract / geometric interpretation of the Art Nouveau style, the long bar brooch designed by Franz Boeres for Theodor Fahrner shows a reduced pattern of four blue enamelled triangles on a stem, each set à-jour into a circle. Remotely reminiscent of stylized flowers they display a remarkable, consequent abstraction.

Franz Boeres (1872 - 1956) started his career as a painter, sculptor, designer, author and poet with student years at the Zeichenakademie Hanau (1886-1891), his first jewellery designs for Theodor Fahrner from 1903/1904 were part of the Saint Louis Exposition in 1904.
