Item Description: "Grete Prytz Kittelsen / J. Tostrup, Norway: Modernist Silver & Enamel Brooch"

Grete Prytz Kittelsen: Modernist Silver and Enamel Brooch
Silver 925, enamel in turquoise blue
9.3 to 3.8 cm
Marks: ‘STERLING  J.TOSTRUP  NORWAY  50’
Norway, 1950s

The large brooch, the enamelling in a vivid turquoise blue on irregular engraved silver, displays a stroke/brush design one would expect as typical of the New Wave era of the 1980-1990s. Being three decades ahead of her time the brooch was designed by Grete Prytz Kittelsen (1917 - 2010) in the 1950s, breaking with the stuffy conventionalism of her time as is with many of her designs for the company of her grandfather, Jacob Tostrup.
